helen M used this site in the hummer thread in general so I thought I'd have a search with mini , comes back with 10 pages worth of movies and tv shows with mini's in them from glimpses of them to the star driving them . Enjoy (and thank's Helen)

It just shows that a lot of people (surely this is not the work of one madman) have too much time on their hands.

Interesting site, and I like the way the cars are ranked with stars. Makes searching through ten pages of Mini results easier. I picked up a few leads to films to watch in the future.

However, like anything of this type, it is nowhere near complete. The new Italian job is only on page 9 and only got 4 stars. Surely it has to be considered that the MINI is part of the film. I couldn't find the original Italian Job anywhere. Did anyone else find it?

Also could not find any mention of: Goodbye Pork Pie; Air Bud - 7th Innings Fetch; Miss Congeniality 2; Winning; Bridget Jones' Diary (1 or 2); The Avengers (the 2000 movie); 3 Men and a Little Lady; or A Shot In The Dark.

The Moke doesn't seem to rate. No mention of any Mokes on the Mini pages, and a search on Moke, as either model or make, recorded no results.

Mokes have been included in Rikky & Pete, Salt & Pepper, Carry On Camping, Thunderball.

Any others?

Cheers,
Watto.

Yeah - i've been looking at this site for years - it's a collaborative effort with a strong early slant towards french & european movies. Most of the early admins of the site were french, dutch or british - it looks a lot more international now but it relies on those people with the movies taking time and effort to screen cap the movies.

I agree - only 3 stars for the Rover that was in 2 scenes and used by a major character and only 4 for the stars of the movie - pretty bad.

The minis in the 69 version got 5 stars! -

Pork Pie is mentioned - but no images (I don't think many folks outside of Aus/NZ have heard of this movie and it's not the sort of DVD that's available in HMV in the UK for instance - i guess it's up to someone here in Aus to cap and add it in!)

I think that the myriad of nameplates, brand & badges makes it harder for them to categorise cars like the mini or moke, so mokes appear to be under Austin Mini.

Still it's a great site and with more old movies coming out on DVD and the kind of dedication that people put in to this type of thing it can only get better. An interesting part of the site that they do have is this page:
http://imcdb.org/vehicles.php?unknown

129 pages of unidentified vehicles - a chance to prove your obscure knowledge of 1940s eastern european trucks and improve the database at the same time

There you go.

It just goes to show that you need to know how to search things properly, or take the time to do it.

My goodness there's a lot of stuff on that site.

Did you manage to find the others I mentioned.

I'm pretty sure there was one in Thunderball, but the site shows Moonraker, You Only Live Twice and something else.

Yes Ian, I did watch Salt and Pepper and will send it back to you this week. I have to say that it is, without doubt, one of the worst movies I have ever watched, with the worst car chase in celuloid history - with the possible exception of the chase scene in Air Bud, where the crooks can't catch a 12-yo girl on a push-bike.

OK, it's a lot worse than that.

Some appalling acting too. The Moke looks outrageous and was the only saving grace for the film.

OK, no it wasn't.

Cheers,
Watto.

      That's basically it , but where else are you going to find a bulletproof , nail firing , smoke screen and oil slick laying (OK , well , a lot of mini's and mokes do that one  ) amphibious crime fighting moke with "carriage" type lights

I remember reading somewhere that one of the mokes used in the bond movies saw out it's days as a 2/3 scale Ferret armoured car in various movies , it was used for a lot of distance shots (which explains why in some British war movies the vehicles just don't look right ...) . I'll try and find where it was written as it claimed it was used in a lot of the big British war movies .

Great site 850, I have a pic of the Red Rover from the Italian Job remake that i took in a Las Vegas car museum. Its registered as a 1960's mini on the papers and i think it also said it was an aussie model, even tho its clearly a rover.

Ah yes, those coach lights!

I did a feature on some of the movies that featured Mokes and Minis in Issue 8. In it I had a pic of the Moke dressed as some sort of armoured vehicle. This Moke is also the one that was used in Carry On Camping, and was bought by the current owner many years ago in that guise. He had no idea what it was dressed like that, and maybe the war movies scenario is correct, though it looked more like something that would suit Dr Who.

Image

Interestingly, the owner is Leo Jack, the person who had the red Moke stolen while in Australia a few months back (haven't heard any update on that one).

Leo has completely restored the Moke to its original specification.

Image

As for Minis/Mokes creating smoke screens, the best one I've seen was when my moke's engine had sh*t itself many years ago, and I used 30lt of oil to drive from Bendigo to Melbourne (less than three hours). I got to the point where I just drove until the oil pressure gauge died, then put in 4lt or so and kept going.

The things you when you are young and broke.

Cheers,
Watto.

It's a Dalek/Moke love child

The one I read had a photo that looked a lot like a ferret scout car until you realised the person standing next to it was either an 8 foot tall giant or the scout car had shrunk  It's in a magazine here somewhere ....
