Hi guys, this looks to me to be gray cast iron based on what I've seen. But thought I'd ask the brains trust your opinion! ![]() I was hoping it is cast steel to make it easier to weld, but I suspect cast iron is the go unfortunately - whaddaya reckon? |

Grey cast iron. Welded plenty over the years. Stick weld it with nickel electrode. Cigweld castcraft 100. |

Sweet thanks doc ![]() I might use this as a learning experience. I'm cutting off all of the primary pipes on that manifold/housing, so I might use the scrap pieces to try cast iron to mild steel in stick, and then try another version in MIG and see the different results for interest sake. |

I have used 309L stainless mig for non strength welds on cast iron, but you can't beat nickel stick electrode for a strong, ductile and machinable weld. |
