I have a 29D4 Vacuum less distributor marked 62741137A Dated 2-73 and the other number is AYH0728 Could this be a very late GT item? I can not find any info about these numbers. Can any one shed some light on this please.

The last dated clubman GTs are Jan 73 of which basically all went to New Zealand.

Most electrical items were manufactured a month or several before a car was complied. Which means a car with distributor 2/73 would be complied that same month or months later.

GTs were no longer manufactured at this time. So would not have been an original factory fitment Dizzy.

I suppose it's possible it is a replacement part. I have no idea what other car would have used this same dizzy.

Some of the other cars that used the 29D4 were the Austin 1800, MGB, Leyland Marina, Morris 1500, Morris Nomad and Hillman Hunter. Even the Nissan Bluebird, Toyota Corona, Ford Cortina, Capri and Escort used them but they had a different drive dog.

My workshop manual lists the GT dissy as the AYG0175 and the SPO28 for the Police GT lists the AYG0175 dissy but with the MK1 S points. It was also given the serial number 62941122B. There are a few other 29D4's listed for the mini but they are probably vacuum advance units AYA0192, AYA0194, AYA0200, AYG1056, 62941052A, 62941053A.

Ignore the image in the parts book. The Cooper S dizzy in some Mini parts books shows a vacuum advance unit, and sometimes images are missing altogether. The TC will have used your distributor.

Hi Tony. Is your serial number 62941137A or 62741137A?

In case there's still some doubt, here's a page from the Marina workshop manual showing the TC with distributor AYH0728, a Lucas 29D4 without vacuum advance.

62941137A AYH0728 is the one I have. OK so it is not a Clubman GT item. Now what to do with it? Any one building a replica GT? I was going to fit an Electronic Ignition Kit in it and sell it. But not being the correct Item I will not bother.

Functionally it's the same as a MK II S and GT distributor, just the stampings on it are different. Anyone not fussed about numbers could use it on either of those cars. A bit like having a Mini K gearbox case with S internals in an S. I suppose you could call it a replica. :P
