Attachment: 8-Port.jpg Attachment: Low Pressure Cloud.jpg There was discussion on the internet about the vapor at the intake ports. Most thought it was fuel. Actually it’s water vapor in the air made visible by the low pressure zone created by tremendous intake vacuum. The same thing can be seen on the upper surface of a jet’s wing under high lift conditions. Those ports are sucking so hard they’re making their own clouds. I must admit I had no idea 850's competed at Bathurst! I thought their top speed was about 75 mph? i would have thought brake fade would have been a huge problem with drums all round doing loads of laps around Mt Panorama? Maybe because they handled so well they didn't use the brakes, engine braking only?! Those early gearboxes must have been tough to put up with the abuse...? |

Early 850 gearboxes were rubbish I had a '61. You were lucky to get 8000 miles out of 2nd gear's brass cone synchro. It wasn't until 1963 that they got baulk ring synchros here in Oz. |
