Merry Christmas everybody!
My wipers have never self parked. Today I had time on my hands so I thought I'd have a go sorting it. Mini K 12AUW motor, 105 degree drive and running gear using a 31780H wiper switch.

Before I begin I have read every thread on the board re wipers. Unfortunately many of the photo's (would have been handy) have vanished. However I have the circuit diagram and disassembled the motor to work out how the slip ring works and how the thing should be wired up at the switch and motor (3 pins). After much head scratching I think (thought) I had nutted out how the system operates.

I've worked out the motor has a fused constant +12V connection via the ignition switch and the motor is activated by a switched earth at the wiper switch. (constant earth to pin 6, switched earth from pin 6 to pin 1 to the motor when the wiper switch is down (i.e. ON) and the wipers work. When the wiper switch is turned to OFF, the switched earth is disconnected but the motor continues to rotate by still having an earth via the earthed motor body to the slip ring through to a brush connected back to pin 8 on the wiper switch and therefore pin 1 then back to the motor until the park area (insulated, no earth) on the slip ring is reached stopping everything. (The +12V at the motor is also momentarily shorted to earth via the slip ring helping to bring the motor to a grinding halt).
If you're following this you're doing well because my head is about to explode :-)

The problem I have, is the wipers now park ok but on the drivers side in the 2 o'clock position! I cannot remove and re position the wiper arms because when the wipers are then turned on, they want to rotate left down towards the the left hand wheel. What on earth (pardon the pun!) is going on?! The park area of the the slip ring only comes in to play once in 360 degrees at which time the wiper gear drive pin is extending the drive cable fully to the right, i.e. wipers on the right side of the windscreen... For some reason the system is 180 degrees or so out of sync and I can't work out why! Have I managed to install a right hand park gear in the motor? Is there such a thing?
I'm going to get another beer and think about it but in the meantime, if anybody has any ideas I'd be very grateful!

Edit: reading this again I had a thought. I do remember some years ago replacing the slip ring because it was buggered. Is it possible I fitted the slip ring 180 degrees out?

Slip rings are easy to change around if you want to run it 180 degrees out.

If this on a 67 deluxe with the earlier wiper scuttle that parks to the driver side then you will probably have to run the slip ring 180 degrees from the way it was on a mini k.

I haven't changed a later setup into an early car so once you have it all up and running i would be curious to know what is required.

Can you use the mini k wheel boxes/cables/ wiper arms etc on an early car?

Do you need to redrill the 3 mounting holes for the motor down lower like on the later cars?

I just changed one to RH park.
You don't move the slip ring, you push the spindle partly out then spin the crankpin plate 180 deg. and refit.
This motor had a mounting plate under it to put it in the lower position.

Not sure, it wasn't my car. I suspect it was a Mini K setup, with the tube lengths adjusted for early wiper spacing. Car was a 67? Deluxe.

Thanks Doug, that chrome extension did the job.

Just removed the drive gear and the slip ring is indeed incorrectly located explaining the issue. About to attack it now.

Slip ring only fits one way, the tabs are assymetrical. See my post above.

Update...

Turns out the slip ring can only be installed in the one position as it needs to line up with the two raised sections of the nylon drive gear. But the crank pin plate can be fitted in 2 positions, one with the drive pin adjacent to the park area, the other being 180 degrees opposite. I installed it in the adjacent position
(opposite to the instructions in Tadhg's "excellent "how to". Why, I have no idea). I now have fully functional parking wipers! (My God I've spent some hours on this issue!).
To summarize, I now have the complete Mini K wiper system setup (motor, switch, wheel boxes, cable, tubes i.e. the lot) fitted and operating correctly on my '67 Deluxe. The only mod required was drilling a hole in the firewall for one of the motor mounts. The reason I undertook this saga in the first place was because I didn't fancy my chances of finding bits for the old system (everything was completely knackered to put it mildly) in decent nick but I had 2 sets of Mini K gear in excellent condition. So it can easily be done...

Yeh sorry i didn't explain running the split ring 180 deg out better. I was talking about the split ring and plastic gear as a whole. I just assumed you would notice the big gap in the ring can only fit one way into plastic raised section.

Here are photos from a car i did last year. It was parking 180 out.

No problems. It only took a few minutes to remove and refit the slip ring and work out what was going on...
