Hi All

Iv converted the missus mini K from drums to a 7.5 disk set up. I was running stepped drums all the way round which kept the tyres just under the wings but when I went to fit them over the new disk set up and they just foul the bleed nipple casting on the calliper. Is it the norm to grind a bit of the casting off to get the clearance. Just asking as I don't want to start grinding away incase I'm missing something obvious. I checked the clearance with some 4 pot calliper destined for another project and these fit fine.

Thanks Ady

Yes it's normal (well, common) to have to grind the casting boss a little, but take the bare minimum off and don't over-tighten the bleed nipple.

Even after filing a fair bit off the bleed nipple boss and the caliper, you might still need to run a thin 2-3mm spacer, which wont require the use of longer wheel studs.

This is a problem with high offset wheels like LS Contestas and 10x5.5s used by Group N racers... The clearance issue is probably worse with the 5.5" wheels I recently fitted than the LS wheels, but they still clear by just enough with no spacer after slight modification. The fluid passages are nowhere near where the caliper needs clearance, and I don't think strength around the bleed nipple is a huge issue *if* the person tightening the nipple isn't a gorilla.

I only had a clearance problem fitting LS Contesta wheels to S discs due to their offset inwards. Did the same as Dr Mini did and have never had a problem.
Aftermarket ROH Contestas have their offset outwards (to fit both standard drum or disc). These should fit without clearance problems.

I am aware that racers fit a thin loose spacer but this is illegal under ADRs.
I have seen the ground away boss broken off by people overtightening the bleed nipple. It is grey cast iron, not steel.

This clearance problem is confined to the rarer 998 LS offset Contessas, not the common Mini offset ones.
