My mini has always been a bit fumey in the cabin.
Went for a run from Emu Plains to Berry and back today with my daughter as navigator.
She complained of the fuel smell.
I have checked everything previously and never found a fuel leak anywhere.
We averaged about 15klm per litre including cruising at 100 to 110 on the freeway to/from Mittagong and then a bit more sedately 8) through kangaroo valley.

1100S. 1-3/4" SU. Maniflow LCB. RC40 twin box side exit exhaust.

Any ideas :(

That ten box exhaust must be restrictive

I think I'd be having a close look around the carb with it running as it sounds like a fuel leak to me.
The hole behind the speedo funnels any vapours straight into the cabin, so it doesn't need to be a lot of fuel escaping to get smelly.
Is there any sign of watermarks from evaporated fuel on the exhaust below the carbs?

What engine breather set up do you have ?

Or even fuel tank breather. If the breather tube is missing or cracked or inadvertently vents to the boot, the petrol fumes come straight into the cabin.

I'll check the breather but I'm pretty sure I routed it through the floor when I fitted the 27 litre tank.
Engine breather is a simple hose out of the rocker cover and then down beside the engine to atmosphere. I could route this to the air cleaner ?.
I'll also have a look around the carb while running.

Thanks for the ideas.

I would study the various standard factory breathing setups and choose one that suits your layout. I know someone who put up with the smell for years and couldn't believe the difference once setup correctly.

Isn't that why we all have to smile as we drive?

If it is still an issue...look into (say) a two piece speedo/production rotisserie hole cover on the firewall side...sealed with lots of rubber U Channel...but easily disassembled to get at speedo cable, electrics etc

You can get some felt for the firewall, made a big difference to mine.

Well I rerouted the engine rocker cover breather hose to the air filter and the fumey cabin is cured :D
