A Google on "Lucas 23D4 40718" says it's for an MGA twin-cam. |

Winabbey's comment is the same as my google too, but if that is a date stamp of 1972, it's a bit late for an MGA! And the MG Twin Cam was a 25D4 body. |

The UK Mini was fitted with the 23D & 25D type Distributor Until around 1973, The Australian Mini introduced the 29D Australian Made Mini Around 1967. I Am not sure if this particular distributor was originally fitted to a Mini going by the date it is possible |

If your distributor does not have a vacuum advance unit fitted, it is probably from a performance vehicle and shouldn't be thrown out. They can be rebuilt with correct weights and springs to suit your application. |

Has anyone ever used this dizzy on a Mk2? I ask because it was attached to a Mk2 block. |

As Bill has mentioned, with the right springs and weights you can make it suit anything. If you have a workshop nearby with a distributor tester they can check the advance curve and figure out if it's suitable The manufacturer reference 40718 only really refers to how it has supplied to the factory, and it could have been modified internally already |

Would this distributor damage my engine Mk2 (23D4 40718F with no advance). I just need something to start my rebuilt engine. |

Hi, as long as you have correct rotor and cap and leads etc there is no reason to not use this temporarily. If you are using a timing light I would suggest 8 degrees before top dead centre as a safe starting point. If you do actually drive it I suggest not over 4000, but as its a new motor you probably are not planning to anyway, yet If it is too advanced at 8 deg, you may notice pinking in the 2000 - 2800 rpm range when driving, light throttle. It may have come off a mk11 cooper S uk, but realistically it needs to go to a distributor guy for setting up and then would be quite a nice relatively period correct dissy. This is the dissy I am using on my rally car, but its a bit special inside. cheers Lindsay siebler If you have built an S engine, it will need fresh 98 premium |

Thank you for your advice Lindsay, I am only using the dizzy to see if the engine actually runs following a rebuild and the gears engage as they should and will use fresh 98 fuel. |
