Post subject:  Standard ride height for 1960s roundnose mini ?

Hello Everyone,

The suspension on my 1960s round nose Mini has been converted from hydro to dry suspension with adjustable hi-lo struts. It is running the original 10" wheels.

I was wondering what the standard ride height should be for this type of mini with "dry" suspension ?. I believe it's currently set too low because I have found it's almost riding on the bump stops and is harsh to ride in (but looks very sporty though !). I would like to adjust it upwards to the standard setting.

I have looked in the workshop manual and been searching the internet but unfortunately can't seem to find any specific figures/measurements I can use to set the recommended standard height.

If someone would please assist that would be excellent !

Thanks, Makes

The factory rubber cone setup had no adjustment over ride height, so I'm guessing that's why it's hard to find definitive measurements on the height.

Mine is currently set up so the driveshaft is almost horizontal (a little higher at the wheel) and there is a good inch between the top arm and bumpstop. The rear needs to be a little higher, I've heard 0.5" to 1.0" is a good starting point.

My cones have settled in now so I may raise them up again (and now I have the extra weight of the rhs tank)

In my opinion the higher the better! No more wincing driving over speed bumps, potholes or driveways :D

Thanks Timmy this is very helpful. I will double check the bump stop distance as you suggest.

At present I have setup my car based on the measurements quoted for the front on hydro minis in another thread. It's now sitting much higher than before when it had the original sagging hydro suspension. I am looking forward to not having any clearance issues in carparks etc. as the front number plate has previously made contact a few times with concrete wheel stops etc
