I've had one that cracked back to the sparkplug hole repaired by spray cast iron, and then helicoiled, just kept cracking... I reckon that'd do the same |

Nah I had one like that, gave GR a look, verdict good for scrap only. You will find it continues down the exhaust port into the water jacket. |

Not mine. I just wanted to see what your thoughts were on how bad the cracks were. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/162653003035 |

Doc I have a mk1 S head very similar to to the one above you say can be repaired. Talking to engine machinist and he thought could be fixed with some seats. This sound like an ok solution that would work? Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk |

Needs to be vee'd out, preheated and welded with nickel electrode. Then machined. The trouble with S heads is there is so little metal there, inserts are not a reliable solution. Have a talk with Graham Russell. I have a 940 head that had dropped a valve, smashed an old insert and damaged the inlet seat. Graham fitted a new insert and machined the seats after we welded up the seat recess. |

Alternative I have used- bolt 2 heads together with a gasket, block the heater, bypass and thermostat holes, and hook up to garden hose. This is usually 70-100psi, if cracked it will leak. |

Could I please have your thoughts on this head: S, 12G940 - 12g1805 sold to me ( a long time ago ->30yrs ) as a big valve/port head - Longman mentioned. It has extra stamps on the heater take off side, .45 25. & <1052 ???? It has small cracks between valves on cylinders 1&4 ( 2&3 none ). The push rod holes on the intakes have been sleeved and ported into - very large ports - probably too big for a road car. It was/is to go on a 1380. It is slightly pitted from surface rust. Cheaper/better to cut a new head or get this one repaired and overhauled ? Valves look in v good condition, haven't sized the stems. A few pics. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
