Was the wiring harness for a 66 Cooper S covered with PVC Tape or Braided Cotton?

My 66 S has PVC tape. I agree that the braided cotton looks better. Much more of a classic look.

I'd hazard a guess that PVC wrapping came when Camelec came upon the scene supplying the harnesses to BMC.
I, for one, am happy to have had PVC wrapping so that the harnesses were like new when removed from my '68 Deluxe to years ago. After a couple of minor repairs, both front and rear went back in.

Just a word of caution though...copper work hardens with age, heat, vibration and use.

Similarly, the insulation can degrade over time...so, you could say (barring installation faults) that a repro harness is inherently safer than re-using a 50 year old OEM item
