simple question... before i start smashing things coz it's really starting to get on my nerves ... how does one get this freaking pulley nut off? This thing will not budge. |

A good penetrating oil for 24+ hours and a decent sized impact gun will pretty much do the trick on anything that can be undone! |

Yeah. Washer is out of the way. Will try some wd40. Or whatever I have. It's the fan belt pulley nut. It holds on the pulley. Fan belt drives the fan, water pump, alternator..... I think that's all. There's only one pulley nut isn't there? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

There is a crankshaft/harmonic ballancer pulley bolt or a generator/alternator pulley nut. |

The water pump/fan pulley is held on by four small bolts so no big deal there. The crank pulley bolt is torqued up and can be difficult to budge. Is the engine still in the car? |

2 ways that work: 1. Remove starter, sit a bearing shell in the ring gear to lock crank then use socket and breaker bar to undo bolt. Or, 2. Sit breaker bar against firewall. Remove high tension lead from coil. Crank starter for a second or 2. [edit] I am assuming this is for the crank pulley bolt. |

yes.. the crankshaft /harmonic balancer pulley nut... it's 1 5/16. stubborn as a mule. Engine is out of the car... and i don't have a spare bearing shell. but i will have soon. I've been using a big fat washer to jam the ring gear. I think i'll just have to try harder. or get a longer bar. must put some wd40 on it or something... and borrow someone's air gun. |

You may find it's been loctited, try warming it with a hot air gun. |

I had that problem with a CV joint/hub nut recently on another make of car (never undone before in 32 years). Nothing would get it to budge. Impact guns wouldn't touch it, not even a 3/4 inch breaker bar with a long piece of exhaust pipe over the end. It snapped the head off a Sidchrome bar. In the end I got it off by heating it up with a MAP/PRO gas flame, that finally allowed it to be undone. |

Try smacking it (technical term) with big hammer, hit it inwards. Might jar thread into submission. |
