I'd be checking on the legality of driving your vehicle on NSW roads on VicRoads issued club plates, especially if you, as the owner, are not a member of the club which has the vehicle on its books. If nothing else, your insurance may be in jeopardy in the event of an incident. The previous owner should have handed the plates back to VicRoads as the vehicle was leaving Vic.

It's the same as it being in Vic. Sign the book when you drive. I have family in Melbourne and am in the same club as the guy I got the car off. I'm going to be transferring it to nsw rego when its in my name later in the year.

i have 4 other vehicles that are mine that are under vic history and Ive never had any problems.

Having had Super Oscars on a rally Cooper S back in the 70's you should be prepared for vibrations due to the height and weight of the lamps and the single bolt mounting at their base. It's very disconcerting having the light beam dancing all over the place, especially when you are at speed on an unfamiliar dirt road. Many rally cars (including mine) solve the vibration issue by fitting an adjustable brace bar to the top of each lamp.

If they are there primarily for the looks then this won't be an issue.

Yeah I think you posted the supports when I posted them last. I havent wired them in yet but I will be (mainly just for when I take it interstate at night) but I'm going to order the brace bar.

Did you just fit the IPF/PIAA ones?

You seem to have it all sorted then Paolo. Your seller should have complied with VicRoads requirements that club plates be handed back.
Good luck.

As I said, the car technically isnt sold to me until sept (i am swapping my other car with him)

So while its under his name - theres probably no point in doing that??

This is a good reason Paolo:
(from the NSW RTA website)
"Interstate vehicles kept or garaged in NSW
A vehicle that is kept or garaged in NSW may be in breach of its home state registration provisions. For example, if an interstate authority requires the vehicle to be garaged in its home state, that authority may take action to cancel or suspend the registration.
Vehicles kept or garaged in NSW are required to be registered in NSW. If not, they are considered to be unregistered and cannot be driven (or towed in the case of a caravan or trailer) on NSW roads. You should also be aware that substantial penalties apply if you drive an unregistered or uninsured vehicle.
NSW Police hold the view that interstate registered vehicles kept or garaged in NSW are not 'temporarily' in NSW and are therefore 'unregistered'. As such, if the operator of that vehicle holds a NSW driver’s licence or is resident in NSW, and drives or uses the vehicle on NSW roads, they may be issued with a penalty notice."

that's interesting... the part that says "Police hold the view", I'd like to see the documented law

Living on the Victorian side of the Vic/NSW border, there are a HUGE number of Vic registered cars (full reg and club permit) living in NSW. Since Vic club permits came in, the number has increased dramatically.

I wonder what the actual law is for the 17 year old Victorian kids who have their NSW license at a relative's address in NSW but live in Victoria.

Thats interesting actually. I have been through a few RBT's and what not in a vic rego car with a NSW license and have not had issues. (also probably because I have 1 car spot in sydney) I esentially end up doing a rotation. I have one car I bring up for a month or two, put it back in the shed and bring another car up.

I lent one of my Vic registered vehicles to a friend once and he got pulled over. he had forgotten to fill the book esentially making the car unregistered. but as my mate had never had or driven a historic reg car the officer was kind enough to let him fill it in and send him on his way. (although he got a ticket for no p plates)

and the officer just advsied him that the book is to be filled when the vehicle is driven. (this was in Sydney) and he didnt mention anything about it being unregistered in any other scenario.

I suppose its interesting also as come summernats time there are vic rego cars that go to canberra for a week or two. but then thats temporary. like I said, come september, I'm either transferring the mini to full NSW reg or club rego and so far for the times I have been able to speak to police - I've been told that if the book is filled its fine.

****************

sidenote, although I think the above is for daily drivers mostly etc? wherein after 3 months of moving you need to have them registered in the state that you are in. although probably somewhat applies the same to club rego to some extent.

but ultimately until the car is in my name - I cant register it in nsw anyway

My daily drives are on NSW rego.

I have made a similar light bar but instead of bolting to the stone tray on each side, there are 2 brackets that bolt to the front edge of the subframe (to take the weight). Then the bracket steps over the grill aperture edge and points forward under the grill and fixes to the light bar. Grill can be fitted and no holes in stone tray.

I fitted one of the commercially available light Bars in front of the grille by carefully slicing the steel frame of the grill just enough for the grille to slot in after bolting in the bar.
