Hi all I have just attempted to put the crank back in an engine I am building. The crank and block are a matching set that I have had on the shelf. I am planning on revving this engine so I had plans to use an old set of thrust washers for a Little extra clearance. With the old thrusts in I have to tap the crank into position with a piece of wood. The centre crank web measures 32.37mm from cheek to cheek With the second hand thrusts the block measures 32.47 The thrust washers measure 2.45mm. The block is an Aussie 998 as is the crank. Can I get undersized thrusts or should I just sand the backs down? Or is there something else I am missing?. Cheers |

Never had this problem. Check the old thrust washers are not oversize ones. With std size new ones it should have around .003" endfloat. This is not enough, you want .005-.006" if going to rev it hard. So sand the steel backs down on a flat sheet of glass (or a machined surface) with some 180 wet/dry paper. |

I just checked the bearing cap with the top washers in. Still could not fit it between the webs of the crank. |

Check numbers on back of washers. They could be +.003 ones. |
