Post subject: | Fitting Ball Joints |
Hi peeps, going to embark on replacing the upper and lower ball joints on my 'clubby when the parts arrive from the UK. After some advice on how-to with choosing shims etc. Have done a search through the 'How to' with no luck. Any help would be much appreciated, and pics if anyone has any of the process. It has been converted to metro brakes prior to me getting it if that makes any difference. Cheers, Andy |

You might find this video useful, you still need to use a bit of trial and error to get the right shims, but at least with this technique you get pretty close first go. |

You mentioned it's been converted to metro bits, they have different ball joints if the hubs have been swapped. |

I think early Metro were same? But not later ones. |

Could be, haven't had a lot to do with the metro ones. Pity someone hasn't come up with a sealed 'bolt on' one to replace the old shim ones. |

that video above shows the ball way to tight in my books it certainly doesn`t look like it moves freely at all to me if they end up tight like that one, then you have a very good chance of the ball-socket coming loose while driving,,, evey time you turn left & right it will want to un-do itself not safe,,, they must move freely, with no "grabby-ness" (no tight spots) & of course with no play (up & down) spend more time on these things & it will pay sorry to butt in,,, carry on ![]() |
