Hi all,

I was driving my mini a few months back and when taking off from a light i lost all power to the wheels (engine still running). While towing it home it made a rather loud grinding noise. I have since started it and tried all the gears, they engage fine and as i work through the gears the grinding noise gets faster. This has led me to believe that i broke my diff.

I have pulled the engine out of the car and slowly taken parts of to check what the issue is. So far everything seems as is should, diff seems to be in working order no visible damage, split the gearbox and it also seems in good condition. There was nothing in the oil.

I have no idea on what to do next other then to get the gearbox from my spare(parts only) engine.

Any thoughts on what could be wrong? anyone else suffered this?

Cheers,
Thomas

it's gotta be on the output side of the gearbox - 3rd motion shaft or diff...

engage 4th gear (fastest), get someone to hold on to the diff outputs (stop them from turning) and turn the input shaft
