Took the newly restored 1970 Mini K down for a Tier 2 number check today and they told me that i can't register it until I find the previous registration history of the car as they could not find any record of it ever being registered in Australia. The car had no plates when i bought it and the member i bought it off also had no rego papers or plates with it when he bought it. He has thankfully given me the details of the person he bought it off but if this turns up with nothing-how do i prove it's not "rebirthed" (as the inspector pointed out). He also suggested i contact other transport dept. juristictions (NSW, VIC, WA etc) and ask them to search through the microfiche archives. I rang the NSW, VIC and QLD transport departments and no-one had any idea about what i was talking about stating that they only had computerised records. I believe the car came from NSW, near Tabulam-has anyone on the forum either owned or know someone who used to own this car (pics before the restoration below, it's a Dec 1970 Jet Red Mini K, YG2S1 11077) Does anyone know how to arrange archive searches from State Government transport Depts.? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Cheers Dave |

Surely the compliance plate numbers are sufficient. "Should" have previously been registered with this info even if it was in another state. |

They're idiots, the car has a compliance plate and the numbers stamped on it which means regardless if for some bazzar reason it has never been registered, it still is registerable now. I really loath trips to the transport services, dealing with people who don't even know their own job. I had one who told me I couldn't register a motor bike because it had no compliance plate.... it was a 1969 model, plates for bikes didn't come out till mid to late 70's. |

The staff in the transport departments that i called had access to a national database that they can all search. They all told me that neither YG2S111077 or 11077 comes up in their databases. I also provided the engine number of the engine that was in it (which was a Moke 1100 and not original) and that didn't come up either. I've now done a PPSR search for both numbers and again-no records come up for a Mini with those ID numbers. Yes-Peterb, agree 100%-it's an unnecessary bureaucratic exercise that gives me the s###s but i will get there eventually!! |

The widespread variations between the data entered in state registration authorities systems versus the data on an ID plate or body stamping have been reported on here many times. You could say that BMC didn't make life easy by having a model code that flipped between alphas and numerals for no apparent reason. One way forward is to provide them with a list of possible data strings to search on based on the ADR compliance plate and the radiator shroud information. The obvious three in your case are a numeric 6 instead of the capital G, numeric 5 instead of capital S and capital I instead of numeric 1. Hopefully others reading this can provide more possibilities for the list. |

Another possibility is the engine number was used originally as the identifier. The VicRoads registration certificate for the Cooper S I purchased new in 1969 only has the engine number on it, no model code, chassis number or body number. |

Cheers Dave Unbelievably INEPT on the part of SA "authorities"....they should hang their heads in shame, as should the individual state "authorities" for not having a National database comprised of each state/"fiefdoms" records. Microfiche? Ohhhhh it would cost a fortune to have them digitized and we don't have the budget!! Ohhhhh WHEN IS AUSTRALIA (SORRY THE EIGHT SMALLER ISLANDS OF INFORMATION THAT MAKE UP OZ) GOING TO GET WITH THE PROGRAM? Hello! if they can't find another match for the "VIN" than just record it and register the damn thing! ![]() PS try searching on Tabulum and Mini's for sale? Look at Trove/newspaper archives for similar...and hope it wasn't a private sale. |

No excuse, databases can be purified and cross referenced etc to validate the data set... If the "authorities" are so pure, perfect and without fault...how come a NSW Morris 1100 I once bought was listed as a trailer...in QLD! Pathetic! ![]() |

Ummmmmm not really within the spirit of the Concessional Rego scheme Doc ![]() Well up here in NSW at least, you don't need a paper trail of rego to put a car onto club plates. Are you suggesting we should still have this, after most states dumped previous records when they went to electronic databases? |
