I would like to confirm that the wire going to the Oil filter switch was actually attached by the factory and if it exits the loom with the Generator Wires.

If anyone with a late MK1S could have a quick look for me I would be much obliged.

I don't want to cut away at my wiring loom too much.

Thanks

Here is the wiring diagram. It says White/purple.

The back of my speedo matches the wiring diagram. It has the wires to the passenger side orange globe disconnected and the driver side orange globe connected with a (White 12v supply) and (White/Purple or White/Brown to the switch).

Assuming mine is as it left the factory.

Appears exactly as you suspect it should be.

I remember when I got my car the filter has been swapped to spin on. I unwrapped the loom to do some repairs and found part of that wire remained and the rest had been cut and removed.

Am I correct in understanding that warning light would only come on if the filter was badly blocked, it wouldn't come on with the ign prior to starting engine?

Yes that is correct. It comes on only when filter is getting blocked.
