You could probably get it stripped and metal sprayed. Can't remember what the coating is though. |

That wear probably was caused by the bearing or housing failure. There used to be a place near Parramatta that did gear repairs. I think they were called Graden Gears but that was many moons ago. |

If your in Wellington NSW the google search found Graden are now called Gearbox & Diff Centre P/L Clyde or there is a place in Newcastle https://www.gearboxanddiff.com.au/ but if your in New Zealand I can't help.

I believe the material is some form of molybdenum. I have asked but not found anyone renewing the coating. The part is 22G1371 18 tooth S and GT for 4 syncho close ratio box. Available new from Mini Spares Uk 91 pounds stg. Also they offer the first motion shaft and the laygear as a set to convert standard ratios (e.g. mini K and early rod change) to close ratio (S) for 268 pounds stg. |

Kiwi I had that surface redone on 1st motion shaft from Mk 1 S back in about 1990 by A1 Metallising Services P/L in Sydney. They did a great job, had to supply new synchro cone to which they matched the taper. Grant (boostedmini) was looking to do similar recently and he spoke to them but can't remember the outcome. May have been reluctant to do it. Contact them and ask - + 2 9599 4111. Good luck. ps the guy remembered doing mine after all these years. |

If mainshaft nose worn I can get this repaired by machining then press fitting a roller bearing hardened inner ring on. This applies to both 14mm and 18mm sizes. Including MK 1 shafts. Can also convert all synchro shafts from 14 to 18mm. |

The gear is hard, a toolroom once did one for me by hard boring it out and press fitting a hardened steel ring. But cost for this would have been more than buying a new gear. (It was a foreign order back when I had a job). ![]() I think the steel ring had to be made and hardened too. Edit, I'd just buy a new gear. Cheaper than fixing it. But if not an S, find a s/h one. I have some good 4 synchro ones. |

Bearing shops CBC, SKF etc sell needle bearing inner rings, they are made from ball race steel. Thats where I buy them from for my mainshaft mods. The ones I use are 14x10 diameter and 18x15 diameter. I don't have a needle bearing catalog, sorry. Measure the original ID of the 1st motion shaft, that is the bore size of the ring you want. You may have to grind one out. [edit] Karcraft lists the 22G1371 (for 14mm bearing) and the DAM3167 (for 18mm bearing). Check them for stock but these 2 parts are not cheap now. |

What would a new old stock one be worth? |

The coating on the synchromesh cones would be and I believe similar that applied as an HVOF. High Velocity Oxygen Fuel coating as used in metal spraying technologies in mining and mineral processing. knock yourself out....... http://www.sulzer.com/en/Products-and-Services/Turbomachinery-Services/Repair-Services/Coatings/High-Velocity-Oxygen-Fuel-Spraying-HVOF |
