I know of one instance where a race Mini didn't boil but got so hot the rings lost tension.
As said above I have had no problems with 25% glycol & water mix for the last 50 years.
If your Mini is overheating you have other problems.

Does anyone have any experience with Evans waterless coolant? A mate is looking to run it in his 1275 once the rebuild is complete. |

I did a bit of searching around before and it seems that the waterless coolant is essentially straight glycole. On the plus side, it has a higher boiling point which means that it will cool better at high temperatures as it will stay liquid at temps where standard coolant/water will have created air pockets next to the cylinders. Therefore it will continue to draw away heat at temps where the water will stop being effective. Also it lasts virtually forever. On the down side, the glycole is less efficient at transferring heat when compared to water. So for a given cooling system, water will extract more heat (as long as it is below the boiling point of the water). So it won't make your engine run cooler, but it will handle being overheated much better and resist the change from "running hot" to "overflowing and going bad". And remain at "running hot" instead while still functioning to remove heat. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk |

The water/coolant mix has worked for me for the last 40 years, doubt I'll bother changing now. I don't know a great deal about it but popularity would say it's either too expensive or not up to the hype. |

I agree with the good Dr... In 35 odd years, 6 Mini's including 2 rather souped up 1275's, I've never had overheating issues using water/ glycol mixture. (The main purpose of the glycol is the anti corrosion inhibitors). Some of my driving has been in very hot weather; Melbourne 42C days, Driving Melbourne to Darwin via Perth in Summer, Year and a bit driving in Indonesia including notorious Denpasar traffic jams when it can take half an hour to move a couple on km. Never had the temp gauge go beyond 1/2 way in all those conditions. My opinion is "Waterless Coolant" is an expensive fad and a complete waste of money... |

In the 60 & 70s we just used water in cast iron engines with copper radiators, no fancy mixing of exotic coolants, no glycol, nothing. And the servo attendant checked the level and topped it up every time you called in for petrol. East west engines with side mounted radiators were a real novelty. |

I have used it in my 850 for the past three years with no problems at all, although it went in after the rebuild so was all clean and no water, you need to use the cleaning product before using the waterless coolant. A very good product indeed if not a wee bit expensive. Laurence |
