I am setting up the diff preload and find I need extra shims to get the pre-load - 4thou for thrust bearings. I suspect the new gaskets are thicker than the old ones, and I am short on shims. Any issues leaving the side gaskets out and use RTV sealant instead? |

My car has no side gaskets and doesn't leak there. But don't use RTV, use an anaerobic flange sealant designed for this. Loctite 515 or 518. |

I've read that Rover dropped the gaskets in later years and just used sealant. |
