Post subject:  Steering rack date code question

Hi, here's one for all the trainspotters: on the weekend I removed the steering rack from my 64 850. It appears to be the original AYA 6001, which was introduced in that year, according to John Sneddon's new book.

The date code looks to be "29 64". The 64 was only faintly stamped. My question is does the 29 mean week 29, or 2 September? Later Aussie racks I think had a full date code (ie DD MM YY)?

cheers
Matt

I believe it to be the week of the year (out of 52). When I did mine last year (year before???), it was stamped "43 66". My car is a matching numbers car and I know it was built end of 1966 and sold new in Feb 67. The week matches around when the other date coded stuff was stamped (i.e. boot lid lock and high beam switch etc).

Thanks, that confirms what I thought. Would make the rack a July build, which accords with the rest of the car, which is mostly unmolested.
Thanks for your help.
