Hey guys,
Im back searching some History on the car after a long break due to work...
Im just curious as to what is the most common way the VIN number on a 1970 MK2 Cooper S is taken as??
Is it the YG2S4**** stamped on the ADR plate? or do you include the body number stamped into the firewall?
Ive got a feeling it could be any combination depending how it was first added into the system when first registered..... What are your thoughts please guys?
cheers
The YG2S4 xxxx number stamped into the radiator shroud is the only body stamping required and used to identify a MK2 Cooper S. This should be backed up by a compliance plate for cars built from Jan 1970.
The body build code 2/06 xxxx should not be used to identify a car number as it is not always 500 less than the car number.
Some states like SA and Tas used the engine number for rego.
Many transport departments get the numbers wrong and the S gets replaced with a 5.
