I just renewed insurance on my mini, they said I could have market value or agreed value. I stuck with agreed value but was curious how they get market value on something that can be so varied. If you have an absolute basket case that gets damaged, obviously you'd come out in front. But what if, like me, you've spent half your lifetime's $$$ and untold hours, on a car that to you is priceless. Then it gets damaged, or worse, stolen, you end up way out of pocket.

With insurers like Shannon's if you think the insured amount should be higher, you can send them photographs (maybe receipts too?) and you can agree on a higher amount.

yeah, thats what i have done, not the photos bit, just asked for max over the phone. I have to admit they did way better than expected. I have other vehicles as market value because thats what theyre worth.

I switched to NRMA Classic. The local Shannons valued my Moke Californian @ no more than $9K. Preferred to switch insurers rather than get into an unnecessary argument.
