Post subject: | Colour help |
Hi guys, I haven't posted on here in quite some time, and I am embarrassed to say its been nearly a year since i worked on my mini (until this past Saturday) I've been spending way to much time on my other projects, but i have promised the girlfriend that I will have it done by end of the year, and have the two parts cars cleared from under the house by June, this meant I need to get my finger out. I'm nearly finished the body work, the car is so far from straight its a nightmare, so much for this fully restored body I purchased, and im going to piss off a lot of people by saying im just going to throw it back together not so i can drive it, im done trying to redo every sub par repair that was done before me, its been 4 years of having a bare shell under the house its time to drive. so on Saturday I got the front end finished and now just have the boot fitment and the doors to go, which means I am very close to colour, I entered to have colour on the car second weekend in March, so need to decide on a colour to go with and im after some advice. I am 100% set on a white roof, I live in Queensland and a car with no Fan or AC. . white roof is a must (will be getting some good insulation also) my wheels are 12x5 Revolution alloys, the 4 spoke type with black spokes and chrome lip and i have a set of black plastic arches for the wheels. initially I was thinking of an all white car and blacking out all the bright work, but have since 'grown up' and no longer want the boy racer rattle can black chrome as i think it will look like rubbish in 12 months time. This leave me with a few colours I like but not sure how they will go with my other bits and things, one is to go for a light bluish grey, or even for a plain outright gloss grey, or perhaps painting the whole car in a cream colour. I cant seem to get on with dark greens (all the minis near me all seem to be British racing green) and ive always hated red cars, so it wont be red. . . so im a little pigeonholed here, what are peoples thoughts? additional should I paint the black plastic flares? or keep them black? and i have a 850 grill i wanted to use as i like it, or the cooper grill off my old mini, both are in average condition, and whichever i choose will have 4 spotlights in front of them, im leaning toward the 850 grill just because i like how it looks. advice and ideas welcome ![]() |

Goldbrocade_62 wrote: Definitely the 850 grill and i like your colour options paint the car and see how you feel about black flares you can always paint them their only flares if dont suit your look sounds like a good idea, I'm really leaning towards Tweed grey, i think the code is GR4 but im not yet sure where to get my paint mixed up, not how many liters i should get, including getting some extra for touch ups and 'oopsies' if ever needed (along with some for those flares) side topic i suppose but whats the best way to freshen up old bright work with bits of rust or pitting? is coke still the best option? |

This car is Tweed Gray, looks very nice! http://www.rmsothebys.com/mo11/monterey ... -s/1057388 As for the grille, it's only a couple of screws to swap between them. I change mine every now and then ![]() |

I think ill go the 850 grill, as i dont want it to be a 'cooper' replica style i just want my own mix style, its a 67 deluxe body, im going to go with a badge that just says 'mini' maybe a mini deluxe badge if i can find mine in my box of bits, and the good ole Morris bonnet badge (need to re paint this as its all faded) and my interior is some hack job honda seats trimmed to match int he early 90's so its a real 'bitsa' of a car but its a mini so im still happy as car be, as much as id love an all genuine cooper S ill take when my budget and parts bin affords me ![]() |

Why not drop by your local panel beater... You will need to find one that has a degree of interest in a "project"... They will have books of colour chips that you can go through until you find the one that appeals most. If you like tweed grey you will find a whole raft of similar shades to choose from. You may also find that a "stock" shade is cheaper than (what might appear to be an obscure choice) ..and avoid the danger that the formula doesn't turn out exactly how you thought it might...... Cheers, Ian |

thanks for the help guys, I think I'm going to go find a place to get some tweed grey or similar mixed up, I'm hoping that 5L should be enough? Ill probably leave the flares black at this stage, can always paint them if I don't like the look. Leroy |
