To all the avid stock mini enthusiasts out there I apologize in advance!

Both quarter windows in my 1976 clubman have past their service life and need to be looked at. I very much like the no quarter window look and was curious to know if anyone has either replaced the window glass from a window without the quarter OR if they have gotten the right shape made up in acrylic or something similar.

Cheers,

Joe

The quarter glass-less windows used in the UK are a different shape to that of the Oz model.... and the (Oz) winder/door release mechanism would need to be re-designed.

Cheers, Ian

Firstly, as far as i know, the Rover doors wont fit, even if you did mod the hinge area. Changing the internals over and getting them to fit would be a real mission. Making 1/4 window ones into single piece style would involve cutting and fitting extra sliding channels, although the glass wouldn't be hard to get, probably around $75-100 each from glass suppliers.

I thought that might be the case - having to modify the winding mechanism. Looks like I'll have to invest just a little time in tending to the current quarter windows

The quarter windows are good on hot days, opened right up they're like air scoops.

So what is the problem(s) with them? New seals can be fitted, although its a PITA fitting them and they're not exactly cheap.

If the vent glass is floppy (a problem I can often relate to), they can be fixed by playing around with the spindle at the bottom (new nylon washers, nut tightening). Check that rust has not attacked the spindle, as this often happens with water seeping thru the rubber hole.

The other major drama is the frame "picking up" the seal at the base, when closing the vent. Hopefully that is not your issue, otherwise the frame has probably worked loose from the glass and usually means swapping the vent with a more serviceable one.

Good luck!

The problem with my drivers side quarter window is that the hinge at the top end of the window has broken. That means that when I open it, it pivots around the bottom hing but the broken top hinge just allows it to flap about. All the seals are FUBAR, hence my thought to get rid of them. Looks like I'll invest in a new set/rubbers perhaps.
