Hi All,
Thanks for the add.
I'm new to the mini scene, but have several other vehicle rebuilds under my belt!...jags, land rovers, EK Holden...
I have purchased a 1960- 850, and after info on chassis number...
on the BMC (Aust) plate it states:

TYPE: YMA2S1
Car No: 9/61261/2301
above the plate is numbers stampeding firewall: 52519
above the stamped numbers in texta: M2737
also number stamped above brake master reservoir: 2301

All info would be appreciated, thanks
Leigh

YMA2S1 is a Morris 850

9/ means Dec 1960 to Nov 1961
61261 is the UK number
2301 is the Aussie number, mid 1961

The first car is 501, so it would be 1800 off the line. 12/60 would be the date the motor was made in the UK, it would be a few months before installed in a car in Australia

Yes, all the above info is correct, - 61261 is the UK number of the "complete knock down" body kit & 2301 means that your car is the 1800th. off the line, about July 1961. (They started at chassis number 501). Should have an engine number starting with 8AM/U/H? 14****?

Yes, from the first 6 months of production, and over 60,000 of the Morris 850 were made to Jan 1966

Try to get hold of Grant Welsh on facebook, - he has a very early 850 but I can't remember it's number.
It would give you an indication. I do remember one of the first Minis' in Australia from when I was living next door to Bill & Marge Abbott, & it was a 1959 prototype with no badging, made completely in UK.

Your texted number (M2737) We have been asked about this a bit lately. It seems to be showing up on Perth Car's only at this stage. We believe there was 1 only BMC dealer in Perth.
One of the other numbers that have been quoted to us is M2745.

Grant posted the advert on his FB page a couple of days ago (assuming it's the same car).

Hi Leigh. Grant Welsh is a very knowledgeable NSW-based Mini enthusiast with a stable of nice early 850's. He is sports850man on this forum, and he also hosts some Mini-centric Facebook groups. The link above is to his 850 FB group.

EDIT: Oops, Grant beat me to it.
