MINI petrol tanks, anyone know the best way to clean the inside of the tank? steam clean ? tank is 10 years without use.
Also the front page of Forum where there is an outline of a mini ,there is a word spelt incorrect SPECIALISISING, is it supposed to be like that for some reason ? Worked on the mini yesterday went backwards.

A good trick is some supercheap water based degreaser, about a litre, a litre of water,a cupfull of fine gravel/blue metal. First remove sender unit and tape up with race tape. Put mix in the tank and shake the cap out of it, rinse well.

Worked on the mini yesterday went backwards.

Does that mean you got reverse working?

It depends on how far you want to go. If the inside needs the surface fixed up, you could use this product:
http://www.ppcco.com.au/por19.html

I used it on my tank. Steps include clean, then prep then paint (each done by swirling around the product inside the sealed tank). Seems good so far. The only issue for me was that it covered over and blocked the mesh for the fuel pipe that leads to the pump. I just knocked it off. Mines only been done a while but others report that it is good long term.

Ditto the PPC tank kit.
The marine clean stuff is very effective.
For the outlet filter, I kept blowing air into the outlet spout while sealer was drying. When dried, the outlet wasn't blocked.
Ended up with enough leftover sealer to coat at least 2 more mini tanks but it begins to set when exposed to air and was hard by next day.
It is intended to seal any pinholes.

The ones that you were doing were sedan tanks ? What about van tanks they have baffles etc

Laingy has just done the one in his MG Midget which is similar shape and baffled. It worked fine. Fixed his pinhole leak.

Yep I can't see a problem with the baffled tanks. It gets swirled around the tank so covers every surface and all the nooks and crannies.

I filmed this in my tank after I'd tipped the paint out. It's the remaining product flowing out. It's silver so you can inspect it easily.

Some kits come with an inspection mirror on a telescopic rod to allow you to confirm the coverage of the goop. Might be helpful for the van tank.
