I'm wanting to check my mini's history as well as rego history. I've been looking at doing a REVS check but it states you need a 17 character long VIN number which the mini dosent have.... The car seems it was last registered in QLD in 1991 as it still has the QLD rego sticker on the quater window. It doesn't have the rego(plates) number on the sticker just a long reference number printed on the sticker. The car has no rego plates on it also. How do I go about obtaining any history and regerstation history checks on the car? Any help would be greatly appreciated to get me started in the right direction. ![]() I've never had to do this and on such an old car! Kind regards |

When I got my Cooper S in '89 I want to Qld Transport to change the chassis number and get a rego history. Got the chassis number changed to YG2S4 with a bit of difficulty, but nothing on rego as they said records were not kept. I asked about how do the police track it. Just a blank stare. Might try again one day. |

Blank stares are normal at Transport Departments. Part of the qualifications to work there, also don't forget, "that's not my section", "I cant tell you that", "I'll have to get back to you with that" (never does). |

i had a lot of help from the old Bondi Junction RTA office when i was taking my mini to the Netherlands in 2007. I needed proof of ownership for customs to give permission to export it (nice to know that they do this) but had not had it registered in NSW for 12 years, and the last registration was in Tasmania. The guy just typed the full chassis number in (prefix + car number from the ID plate) and found the entire registration history. Of course he only confirmed my ownership and registration to me due to privacy laws. He typed up a letter stating that I owned the car between 1990 and 1996 for which he had records and that was satisfactory to the customs office. Obviously this was for a NSW registered car. They have no access to other states old records as far as i know. It can come down to the person you get at the counter and since NSW moved to a shared services centre model, i am not confident that something out of the ordinary like that request would be able to be done with one of the better people. cheers michael |

It doesn't have the rego (plates) number on the sticker just a long reference number printed on the sticker. Below is the rego sticker on my car which expired in 1991. It has the rego number and engine number, so appears to be different to yours. I would've thought QLD rego authorities could give you the car's history up to last registration if you provide the sticker details. Try a phone call to them. Another option is FOI. I provided VicRoads with the registration plate numbers of the two Cooper S's used by Vic Police in the mid sixties and they returned all the history for both cars with owner details deleted. I had to fill in a form and pay a small fee. See here - http://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/About-us/Righ ... nformation Attachment: image032.jpg

Thanks Guys! I'm going to get onto QLD RTA in the next few days and see how much info/history I can obtain. Doug my rego sticker for the same year is different to yours... No where as much info. Hopefully the only reference number can yield some info/history. If it doesnt then I'm sure my engine number/VIN will. This is my rego sticker. |

Hey guys, Im back searching some History on the car after a long break due to work... Im just curious as to what is the most common way the VIN number on a 1970 MK2 Cooper S is taken as?? Is it the YG2S4**** stamped on the ADR plate? or do you include the body number stamped into the firewall? Ive got a feeling it could be any combination depending how it was first added into the system when first registered..... What are your thoughts please guys? cheers |

What are your thoughts please guys? cheers The YG2S4 xxxx number stamped into the radiator shroud is the only body stamping required and used to identify a MK2 Cooper S. This should be backed up by a compliance plate for cars built from Jan 1970. The body build code 2/06 xxxx should not be used to identify a car number as it is not always 500 less than the car number. Some states like SA and Tas used the engine number for rego. Many transport departments get the numbers wrong and the S gets replaced with a 5. |
