Floating ones were original. I have heard some 998 press fit rods were used here but have never seen one.
However, 998 A+ motors in UK are press fit.

I the years I played with minis I only ever came across one 998 engine that had press fit Gudgeon pins. that was in a Deluxe.
From Memory the rods were the same minus the bush.

These press fit rods were Australian manufactured and only used for a couple of years.

About 1968.

Repco made the pistons and rings which are now obsolete.

The little end size is a couple of thou bigger than the normal 998/1100 conrods when the bush is removed.

Most people use the normal rods when doing an engine rebuild that requires pistons.

I have a set of GR 80 thou flat tops . About a 16 mm pin.
The rods I pulled out of the deluxe 998 are 20mm . There is no circlip present , they look press fit.
Question : am I dealing with an odd set of rods ?
Machinist has stalled so I need to organise this asap.
All help appreciated :)

Looks like it. Get a set of the standard bushed 998/1098 rods. I have 4 here in Sydney but Matt Read in Brisbane would have a pile. PM 'theminiman' on here.

If you are doing a proper rebuild you will be fitting new bushes in the rods anyway, so if you are going to use the pistons with smaller pin that need a small end bush why not just fit bushes in the rods you have and and have them machined and aligned to suit the pins of the pistons you are using.
