Took my 2 engine mini to bundoora BMC day, Topped up fuel at servo almost opposite entrance. Car ran well on the way to bundoora, But, on the way home both motors over heated, Front usually struggles to get to proper running temp [ always low ] , weather was certainly warmer on return trip, but , Never had this problem in the past. The fuel was 98 octane which i always use, My local servo is United so thats what i generally use, With no past prob, Anybody got any thoughts on this ?
thanks in anticipation

Any coolant blown out when you stopped?

My car has been doing this recently and leaves very little coolant left in the sytem, causing overheating when driving again.

Fixed with a new thermostat (old one had dissolved) and waterpump, as well as clearing the blocked bypass hose........

No, very little coolant loss, not enough to matter, Thermostats and water pump are new [ 3000 k,s] rear has Davies craig pump & fan setup , has always worked fine, Front has always run cool so was going to change thermostat, now not sure which way to go

What timing do the engines run? I have seen a modern ECU car with 'chip' tuned engines run in limp mode when the ron 98 wasn't up to spec. Dump fuel, go back to known quality source for pump gas and voila all those extra ponies returned..... but whether pinging or over advanced timing for the RON would ultimately lead to overheating, i am not sure. More likely a combination of both - fuel issue and cooling issue ( normally just copes, but something caused it to reach the tipping point.

I don't believe the fuel is the issue unless the tanker driver dumped 91 RON fuel into the 98 RON tank by mistake which I find highly unlikely... Fuel NEVER leaves a refinery off spec..

Well, Drove to lang lang to run fuel out taking note of temp, Refilled with shell 98, car ran fine both ways, On return trip engine temp was definatley lower on front motor, and ,Electric fan and pump cut in less often on rear .

Still don,t know what to make of this, ???????
