What a load of crap one has to go through to get a roadworthy these days.

Arrived at the Tester's business only to be greeted with "Gee I hate these old cars". Without even getting it on a hoist, the guy says I needed to change the front park lenses to amber. As I had H4 headlights, he said I could put the park lights in there. I said it was a near standard 1966 Mini Deluxe, restored to original specs, not required to change lenses. Then he suggested that as the gearbox had a reverse light switch, I would need reverse lights fitted. Then he said the rear brake spacers would need to be removed. I explained that they wern't spacers, they were stepped one piece Cooper S drums. Then he said it wouldn't pass the brake test. I said I'm sure it would, it had disc brakes. He specifically said that even though these old cars complied at the time of manufacture, they must comply with the current ADR's. I said that if that's the case, I'd better install some air bags, ABS brakes, rear seat belts etc.

I kept my cool, told him he was wrong on everything he had said, and told him to forget the roadworthy. You wonder how these morons stay in business, pissing off customers like that. One customer will tell 6 others, those 6 tell another 6 each, and before you know it they wonder why they're out of business.

Went up the road to another Tester, squeezed the test in before lunch, passed first time with flying colours. The guy said I had done a superb job on the restoration.

Rang Vic Roads, only to be told they were booked out till Monday. Can't win either way. At least now I have the magic piece of paper.

And these are the first to whine when they go broke and no-one supports them

My daughter had her 62 tested for a rego renewal with single leading shoe brakes.
I asked how it passed the brake test ?
He said it can never pass that test, "but we know how to get the correct result out of the machine ".
At least some people are understanding of old technology

Yeah I hear yous, some or most are good businessmen, some are just pricks getting their jollies. Most likely they were bullies at school too.

He just wants to stick to changing the oil in 2009 corollas, he probably finds that work challenging and rewarding

Ha reminds me when still in NewZealand, I had a series1 short base landrover hardtop, not a straight panel on it thank goodness we worked hard at sliding it into banks cliffs etc anyway WOF are or were standard in NZ every six months, our time comes and wombat fails me on brakes, handbrake, front suspension.
so a quick drive pay another$30 and sail through the next station down the road, testers comments still ring in my ears today, 'tough little buggas aren't they, takes a lot to break them."

Where are you located in Victoria? Bryan at Link Automotive in Mitcham, Melbourne gets his roadworthy's done at a nearby "Mini friendly" workshop. None of the silly nonsense you're dealing with...
Not saying your car doesn't have to be in very good order, it does. But none of the amber lens, ADR stuff and reversing light bulls%^t..

I miss living in W.A....

My local guy had a similar attitude.. I had to show him how the seat adjustment worked, then told him not to jack the car up on the sills which he ignored and sent me to wait outside! Never went back to him!
