Split the case and repair from the inside, a bit of glass mat should strengthen it.

Can this be repaired? More to the point is it worthwhile repairing? The plastic surrounding one of the mounting bolts has broken away so it only has one bolt on one side to secure it, looks like its been repaired with fibreglass before, does anyone know someone who repairs these? this reminds me, I'd be keen on a restoration guide for the outside... I have one in my car, and a spare - both are a little bit tatty |

Ditto for all of the above. I'd like to know what sort of paint might stick to the plastic as mine has a repair that has left the area with a mottled pattern of the plastic. BTW: in the ebay link winabbey posted above, the vendor is listing a Mk1 heater knob for A$33. These are available from UK for about 3 pounds. (But with UK postage, it might be cheaper to buy it here!) |

Cheers, Ian The plastic heater that Jenk showed in photos and winabbey put links to are fitted to Mk 2 Cooper Ss. The heater with a round hemisphere on one end were fitted to others - late mini Ks and clubman? I think. |

The beehive heater was fitted to the Mk2 S between Oct - Dec 1970. |

According to the sales brochure a heater was optional on the Mini K, and was the same style heater fitted standard to the MiniMatic. Was that the metal under-bonnet one that fitted where the power brake booster is on the S?

Hi Winabbey, I've had 3 Mini K's ('69,70 and 71) and they all had a fairly large, "bulberous" at each end heater fitted under the dash where a Cooper S heater would be, different from the heater shown above. They were very good heaters except for the cumbersome, often difficult to operate controls (fan switch, open/ close hot water valve i.e on/off and the car interior or demister flap) that were on a bracket bolted underneath the parcel shelf to the right of the steering wheel. Except for the fan switch, the controls were push/ pull operated cables that were hard to use, particularly the water on/ off valve which I think because of the awkward cable run was just difficult to operate. They should have stayed with the easy to use Cooper S type. (I'm assuming they were good, never had one) I've a Mini K one in my Deluxe now but not hooked it up yet, waiting until I figure a way of controlling it without the cables! Cheers Michael |

I have one in my car, and a spare - both are a little bit tatty Seeing as they are all fibreglass you could rub it back and then fix up any cracks or chips with some fibreglass resin mixed with talcom powder to form a paste, and then smooth them out then repaint . |
