Hi Everyone, this may sound like starnge question, but I am having issues working out the wiring for my tacho. It is a 3 gauge cluster (not sure if its from a clubman or rover) with clubman wiring in a deluxe body. Hopefully someone here can help fill in a knowledge gap for me. I cannot seem to get my tacho working at all (except the backing light is working). I'm not sure what year car the tacho or wiring loom is from (ie the tacho does not necessarily match the wiring loom). It seems to have 2 plugs on the back of the tacho (1 bullet connector and 1 spade connector). I was just wondering if anyone knows where these should plug into? I have tried the wiring diagram, but that does not seem to help. Again, i know that this is very vague, but the cluster is bolted into the car already and is quite difficult to remove again, so I was hoping that someone would be able to explain it for me. You have the voltage sensing type usually found on the later cars. The Male bullet connects to the coil negative terminal The Male spade connector connects to a 12V Ignition Source Small screw near male bullet connector is the Earth (usually screwed into PCB) |

Just for reference the other style used on the earlier Leyland Minis is called the current sensing or loop type. It has a male spade and a male and female bullet coming out of the back of the tacho. The bullet connectors are connected in series with the white wire from the ignition switch to the coil positive. The Male bullet is connected to the 12V Ignition Source The Female bullet connects to coil positive The Male spade connector is connected to 12V Small Screw just below the male spade connector is Earth (usually screwed into PCB) |
