Hi I am having some dramas with my 998 van. was diving fine last week went to start it up yesterday and it wont rev at all. It idles fine but when you give it some throttle it dies and coughs. I can rule out the ignition system as it has them same result running on the mega jolt setup and the distributor.

I tried pouring some fuel straight into the carb and it revved up fine (car is running a single 1.5 su) so I figure it is a fuel delivery problem so I put a new fuel filter and pump which did not help. checked the fuel bowl is full and needle and seat work fine. I also blew compressed air through the hose from the bowl to the jet.

what should I be checking next?

thanks

Not sure if this helps , but Vulcann had fuel issues with his van ,

While you have the tank like this, I strongly reccommend shoving some stout wire down the inlet/pickup and make sure it's nice and clear.

My fuel woes came from some concrete like sh!t that was right near the end of the tube, I had to basically chip it off! ...AND there was a similar deposit in the fuel pipe just on the last bend as it comes into the engine bay - took me days and days of runnning out of fuel to find them both!

cheers,

Jacob

I was thinking if electric it should be easy enough to check the flow. Is there a fuel filter there somewhere?

Fuel flow is good brand new facet pump and new filter. Fuel bowl is always full. Still won't rev past 2000 with the choke on but will be fine if I pump fuel straight into the carby. Took carby off cleaned and used new gaskets to install also put new manifold gasket on not long ago. I am all out of ideas

you can't necessarily rule out an ignition problem just because you've tested it with a distributor and with a megajolt - they may both be timed badly. I'd put the distributor back in and time it to TDC, and use a known good (tested on another engine) coil, leads and plugs

all of the parts of the carby are moving freely? dashpot isn't stuck? has oil in it?

Is the float actually floating and free to move? Rather than jammed or full of fuel :?:

spark plugs not in need of replacing, i had a similar issue and new plugs & tightening the solid fuel line nut a bit tighter seemed too fix it

Yep, could be...remove the damper piston then stick your finger down the throat of the carby and gently lift the piston and drop it to see if it is moving up and down freely...

Don't think it's a timing issue as it has run fine before and still revs when fuel is poured in. Fuel float is good and seat seals well. Fuel flow is good so lines are not blocked. Tried 2 sets of plugs and cleaned the carby and hose to fuel bowl out. Going to check for vaccum leaks this avo however all gaskets are new but will give it a go

If running a brake booster try blocking the brake Vacuum line and see if it make any difference.
