Post subject:  Door hinge gaskets

Hi all,

Around 12 months ago i had to replace the door hinges as they were flogged out again after the rebuild they got about 10 years ago.

my issue is the gaskets i got seem to be a little skinnier or just as wide as the hinge area and the gasket is flat with no lip like the ones i had previously, now my doors have moved slightly the gasket has move a little exposing the back of the hinge.

so my question is, does anyone know if these lipped style gaskets are still available? I have checked all the normal sites here and UK and they all seem to be this style without a lip.

anyone seen these of late?

thanks

Grant

Hah! I just did this exact same search Grant and came up with nothing! I ended up buying the regular type from minispares (which actually is made of very thick sturdy gasket material which I am happy about). Not sure about fitment though as I just received them today.

Rubber ones sold now shrink. Cut up an icecream tub.

I tried the icecream plastic gaskets the last time i did some hinges. It worked ok.

Well to tell the truth i used an old 5 litre bottle of oil. I wanted black plastic but couldn't get a black icecream container.

Depends how thick you want the gasket, 0W-20 or 40W-70

The hinge gaskets I got in my full rubber kit from karcraft are the lipped type.

Mate, for the life of me I don't understand why your door hinges are shagged after 10 years? Mine are 49 years old and are as they were when new (replaced the pins naturally). But how do the hinges themselves wear out in 10 years or am I missing something?....
