Post subject:  Oil change with oil cooler

Hi all I'm about to change oil in my cooper s, how do I get the oil out of the cooler and back in do I need to remove the cooler completely.
And what is the capacity of the cooler and what is best to flush it out with as I think it may have a blockage as oil seems to get very hot.

Thanks
Glenn

Firstly, if its getting really hot, that means its fine. If its blocked it won't. Just change the oil as you would an engine without one, the bit of oil that's left in there won't matter. When you think of it, there's lots of places for sneaky little bits of oil to hide inside the engine. :-)

Thanks Peter.
I would have thought it would hold about 1 litre maybe, maybe I'm wrong just thought it should be drained out

Plenty cars have coolers these days, most can't be drained without dismantling. Keeping the oil changes up to schedule should keep everything good.

It doesn't hold anywhere near 1L. 250-300mL maybe, including the hoses.
