Has anyone imported any engines from the uk? Was there anyway to check the engine is not nicked or issues getting it regoed in oz?

Only drama I'm aware of locally is some UK engines have the numbers riveted on, not stamped.
Gotta be stamped to the block for use out here.

Does one stamp the number on themselves, or does vicroads (or appropriate state authority) need to issue you a new number?

one is best to not ask... if one asks, then one is required to have the appropriate state authority issue a number

Well that's the way BMC did it when they were building new cars....

I seem to remember I had to get a Blue Slip (it was 25 years ago) and show a receipt for the purchase of the engine.

Once I had those, the RTA changed the numbers on the rego certificate.

Cheers, Ian

Meh, nobody cares. My car has an MG Metro engine in it that still has the riveted on plate. Sailed through rego.

They don't really care about the engine number to much, as long as it is the "Correct" engine for the car and that it has a number.

Plenty of personal import Minis still have their aluminium plate.

V6 Volvo had a little Aluminium plate with engine number on the side of the block too. They were never refused Rego. It is quite a common practice.

Tell them nothing just let them pick it if they notice it
