Hi,

My engine is in pieces because I'm installing a new camshaft (Doc will be pleased to hear it's the RE 282). The engine has only done 15000 km since full overhaul, do I remove the carbon from the piston crowns or leave alone. I'm in two minds, don't want loose crud to get between pistons and bores.
Also, should I take the bearing caps off for a looksee or again leave alone. Before dismantling the engine was perfectly healthy, 240 psi compression pressures and good oil pressure.

Thanks

Mikal

I would leave the bearings alone & go get a can of carby clean & clean off the pistons & use an old rag to wipe off the debris.

What Brad said ^^
Smear some grease around the top of the bores then turn pistons past tdc, wipe grease off.
