Hello,

Just brought my first mini a couple of weeks ago and have been trying to confirm what year it was and what the original colours are?

The only plate on the body I've found is XA2S2 0558438P

Image

And the engine number has been stamped in to the block is 99H905AJH001389

There is also an Australian Mod Plate

If any one could steer me in the right direction with this?

Thank you
Nic

Got a photo of the outside of the car?
Nearly seems like it could be an early 70s UK mini.

Yep - Mk3 import. Probably 71-73 ish.
I can't tell you it's original year or colour but being British built, British Motor Heritage would be able to tell you everything down to the day it was made.

As someone said, you could apply for the heritage certificate. For not a lot of money, you will get the full story of your car as it rolled off the production line. Pity we can't do that for Australian produced models.

That would be preferable to taking a tag off unless you plan a ful, re spray/ resto anyhow.

The codes on the mod plate are for certifying compliance for the install of seat belts (LK1) and with ADR's (LO1), and as it also has the date 12/72 on the same line, I would expect they are claiming it has a December 1972 build date.
The seatbelt requirements as with many ADR requirements relate to the vehicle build date - hence its inclusion.

Also, as the mod plate date appears to be April 2000, it would indicate it probably was imported in 1999 or early 2000.

Tim.

Unfortunately by the time the Clubman came along the factory records were not what they used to be.

Once upon a time you could get a full build record for $5. Today we're not so lucky.... Have a look at the website and see if you're happy to pay for what level of service they are offering for your model...

Other wise I would be looking carefully at the firewall behind where the heater fits or at the top area behind the dash trim for original paint.

XA2S2- indicates a UK built Clubbie somewhere between 69 and 74... (http://new.minimania.com/Mini_Chassis_V ... __Revised_)

Cheers, Ian
