I came across a 940 head whilst cleaning up my workshop. The head has 35mm inlet valves and hardened valve seats in exhaust valves. However I looked at the ports and they measured out at approximately 30mm. I looked at my small valve 940 head and the ports are about the same size. Will the bigger valve head still flow enough to handle a 266ss cam and Vizardised twin HS2 carbs. I read that the Morris 1300GT produces about 70hp new and 74ftlb. Would this head flow enough to produce similar?

Yes it will be fine. Mk2 S head just had the 35.6mm inlets and stronger springs. Ports were much the same.
The major flow restriction is at the valves on a 940 head.

Thanks Dr Mini. It will save a few dollars not having to get another head built.

If you believe you have a standard S head

where do you by brand new valves?
Is UK usually the best EN steel?
Do you usually measure the valve with vernier calipers?

The usual Mini spares places will have them - viewtopic.php?f=41&t=83593

Here's MKO as an example - http://minikingdomonline.com.au/product ... ts/page/3/

Is there any difference in quality from minispares UK

with the cooper S EN steel exhaust or inlet valves

compared to sales in Australia you would buy the new AEG valves I believe

I have these in my car, I bought them when Lindsay was still running the business and he recommended them, saying that's what he uses in his race engines
