there`s generally 2 types of dipstick, one is the early std mini type, flat metal with a little rubber boot that slips up to the round flat section on the stick,,, & goes with the plastic type tube the other is the "S" type, looks like it`s 2 bits of steel folded & takes a tapered type seal fitted to the stick,,, & takes the metal tube hope that helps edit,,, sorry there is a 3rd type, Late APlus type, & it doesn`t have a tube in the block, it is similar to the "S" type but just simply fits into the countersunk hole in the block |

The Plastic Dip stick tube type is definitely the Later type fitted on. Mini K. There is no seal of any type fitted between the block and tube on either the metal or plastic type tube. I normally Glue in the plastic type with epoxy, they all seem to become loose with age, The Metal tube is normally a nice tight fit even after being removed and replaced a few times. Dave |

As sitnlo62 says... Ditto for my MkII S - steel tube. My 1969 mini K has a plastic tube. |
