Hi all,

Newbie to minis and hoping to get some help regarding my Leyland Mini s which is currently having some brake issues. I bought it originally with the brake pedal needing to be pumped once or twice to brake properly otherwise the brake pedal would just sink all the way to firewall without braking.

Having a quick look around the fluid level wasn't dropping and there didn't seem to be any leaks anywhere so i checked the drum cylinders and some of them have fluid build up under the seals. Because of that, i decided to replace them all and bleed the system.

Now that i fitted up all the drum cylinders, bled the brakes, i now have even more problems. The left side front and rears are adjusted and they spin freely but the right side front and rears are adjusted back as much as possible and they are still rubbing on the drums. On top of that, when trying to brake now, i have to keep pumping the brakes until i cant anymore and it will slowly roll to a stop with barely any braking.

I can't figure out what is causing this to happen and any help on this would be greatly appreciated, by me and my neighbour, he's probably heard me say just ever colourful language i can use while working on the brakes.

Thanks

Assuming the fronts are twin leading shoe drums (two hydraulic wheel cylinders) the adjusters on each side should be adjusted in the "direction of rotation of the when they are on". So the left hand side turn clockwise to adjust them to reduce shoe clearance. The right hand side are adjusted ant-clockwise. You need to adjust both the top and the bottom adjuster.

The rears have one adjuster and both sides are adjusted clockwise.

Adjust them all till you can hear the drum scraping a bit.
Stomp on the brake pedal a few times and adjust them all again.

Unless you have air in the hydraulics, you should now have a decent brake pedal.
