Hi everyone, Trying to maximise power and torque out of my 1310. I currently run Twin HS4 SU's with K&N cone fitters. I've been recommended that if I changed to a single HS6 with a ported manifold I may get some better results. Has anyone got any experience doing this? Anyone know what end result I may get? Better or worse? Any opinions / dyno results would be appreciated Cheers James |

only a seat of the pants opinion... not a lot of difference I had 2x HS4 until a few years ago, then had a few years of boost now back to a single HIF44 - it's nice, it works well but I don't think it's a lot different. What I think is more worthwhile is a wideband (I have an innovate LC1) permanently installed in your exhaust with a gauge so you can actually see what fuelling is doing. The HIF44 I have came with what's recommended as the 'power' needle (BDP), and it's a bit too lean for my 1340 under power - I get 14:1 AFRs, but I'd be better with 12:1. You'd struggle to diagnose that with plug reading |

Thanks for your response Simon. Do you know what you're planning to buy next, needle wise to try in the HiF44? Has anyone used this manifold from Maniflow before? search results didn't show anything besides the Twin carb version. I'm using a Howley manifold, it came with a ~10mm spacer that I had to machine to about half that to clear the lip of the speedo hole, and file a bit of the float bowl cover - it still tap a little bit. But remember I'm using a HIF44 not a HS6, so clearance is different for the needle, I'll just sand a bit the pointy half to start with, but I think a BBC looks alright. It might be worth contacting them directly to see if it fits a standard 1275 with centre speedo? The Mini 7 race cars they are designed for normally have the firewall/bulkhead modified to fit longer manifolds and Webers. They also use 998 engines which are marginally shorter than 1275 blocks. Their race regulations state they can only use one throttle body, which is why they use the single SU and a single barrel of Webers like this. http://maniflow.co.uk/index.php?view=pr ... oduct=1099 |

Cheers James I couldn't find one with the type of element I wanted that would fit, so I made one - it's an A109 round paper filter on an offset base. I made it out of 6mm aluminium plate. A plate top and bottom, the filter between them and the mouth has a fairly wide radius on it absolutely no chance of having a speedo cable... |

I have used this type of inlet manifold many times with hs6 and hif44's with very good results : http://www.minisplus.com.au/classic-min ... ter-heated Have used them on everything from small bore to stroker motors. |

I reckon the twin 1 1/2's would be better as they are feeding the inlets directly, the air doesnt need to go around a corner, like it would on an HS6 On the other hand using a single HS6 would mean a longer inlet manifold allowing fuel to atomise better before arriving. So I dont know.... I dont reckon you will notice a lot of difference. Go a 45DCOE webber. That would be your best bet for power I reckon If you want a good single su manifold, why not get a GR inlet manifold, I have heard these are very good |

GR's RE7 inlet for a single HS6 works great. On my 1412 stroker it gave 113 lb/ft of torque where the Dellorto 45 with 38mm chokes only managed 108. Only downside- good luck fitting any air filter without adding a Weber box to the firewall. |
