Progressing on the project but struck some issues.

The new clutch master is not releasing pressure when taking the foot off the pedal.
Just kept pushing plunger out further each press.
Only way to get it to return was to open the bleed valve.

I bench bled and then using a suction tool once installed - so not pumped in car before.
Is acting more like a brake master (??) but box says is clutch ....

Any ideas on what is going on and what I should look at ?

This is probably not related - but the other issue is the gear lever is stuck "solid" and does not want to move with reasonable force.
Is a remote gearchange ...
Again any ideas on cause and what to look at to resolve ....

Thanks in advance...

Tried swapping slave with known working... No change.
Swapped out master and still seeing same.
Looking not to be hydraulics as root cause ????

If,,,(after you have pushed the peddle & the arm moves out & stays there)
you loosen the bleen nipple on the back end of the slave, does the arm return then?
& yes fluid should squirt out the nipple :-)

Is it a new clutch hose? Sometimes the old ones will block up and stop the fluid returning.
Does it release the pressure / arm when you loosen one of the fittings on the solid 3/16 line?

ok, so it returns with the slave nipple loose, so it is a Hydraulic issue

so the next port of call is the hose (like Jon said)

if you tighten the slave nipple & pump the peddle a bit again to make the arm stay out again,,, then loosen the next junction off , hose to pipe join & see if it bleeds back again there

& yes more fluid should come out & the arm should return

if it doesn`t then next check is the pipe, so loosen the pipe from the top of the cyl

& so on it goes in an effort to diagnose the problem
got it?

Fixed now.

When tried pedal with no master attached was staying on the floor and quite "heavy".

Pulled out the pedal box and had to drift out the pin so badly rusted.

Now replaced with a plated non corroded pin from a clubman pedal box. (Stripped and painted pedals while apart.) Also replaced the return Spring.

Rebuilt with copious amounts of molybond.

Clutch and pedal now functioning correctly and "light" as.

30 years ago may not have experienced such worn or stuffed-with components as we are finding these days.

You learn something new everyday...

Now to fix the gear change.....

(Will put up a picture later)
