Nice but someone has more money than sense...I can think of alot nicer cars for that kind of money that you can actually drive...now every man and his dog will be trying to get mega bucks for their piece of crap rust buckets and put all Minis out of the price range of future enthusiasts...good on him for getting that amount though...maybe I can sell my clubby for 40g just has a little rust but needs full rebuild...lol

I think people pay for rarity and originality - that car has both.
A few years ago gullwing Mercedes were selling for $700,000.00 today they are hitting 2 mil. Early Porsches have tripled in value, Jensens, Astons, Ferraris have all doubled or better.
From an investment perspective the rarest do the best and for the mini that means the Cooper S is the best investment but if it is about fun and love of the marque an average Leyland mini gives 90% of the fun for 20% of the price.
An original but unrestored 1071 cooper s sold in the uk for 39,100 British pounds a very good 1071 is for sale at 77,000 British pounds.
Minis are on the climb.

I bought my first Mini in 2012 and have noticed that prices for all early roundnose Minis have increased since then.

Have you ever seen what rusted out scrap goes for on EBAY??

The rusted never restored 59er from a few years ago went for something similar I believe.

Its not really comparable to Australian minis I dont think.

premium prices will be paid for original unrestored cars, not the so called "restored" car unless worthy of concourse standard. Prices are on the rise for these cars, it's the rarity of having a original car, which attracts the attention, there is a 1000 restored minis out there, how many original good condition cars are around now, they are only original once ( I call original never been stripped/ rebuilt except mechanicals and minor paint touch up is ok). I paid good money for a very original mk2 s only a year ago and l don't regret it one bit, l haven't paid to much much just to early! 68 rustys mk2 s is another nice example of a original car. Buying a original car removes the most common mini question as well, is this a genuine car. If you ever get a chance watch a show called Chasing Classic Cars on Foxtel or look it up on YouTube, it's entertaining and a good schooling on trading and selling cars in the states, micro cars, exotics, pre war, post war muscle and even a twin engined mini he has traded great show and it backs up what I have posted above.

In the UK there is nothing "original" talking about MK 1's of any description. Not discounting the amazing skills and workmanship they have, many of the restored cars may have the original roof and that's about it. Is a car with a new floor, sills, boot floor, front panels etc really a restored car or a completely new rebuilt car with the right numbers on it. Personally I wouldn't touch a UK Cooper S with a barge pole....
