Post subject:  Cooper S PCV Valves

I have been looking into what PCV valves were used over the period 1965 to 1971 and would like to know at what point the valves changed. Any input would be appreciated.
It was touched on here viewtopic.php?f=9&t=92297

I believe the 1965 cars had this style. Tall lid and fat body.

Here is the Jan 1966 Modern motor magazine test car which would been built in 1965 and it has the taller lid.

1966 to 1968 flat lid and thick body.

1969 to 71 flat lid and thin body.

My early 66 has one like the first picture. Again, not sure if original.....

The Australian Mini parts catalogues show part 13H1753 as the first PCV, then 13H3609, which is then superseded by 13H5191. There is no change point data to indicate when the changes occurred.

There are two different looking versions of the PCV listed on Minisport's website, both with part number 13H5191.

I have the second version in my spare parts bin (the one with a stepped base to the cone where it meets the stem). The lid is embossed with FVP 2003/10 and date 6/68.

Just checked my early 66 PCV. Found it is marked at the top in tiny numbers: 11/65

Stamped in bigger letters in the lower part is 2001/03

Plus the the usual Smiths & Sons etc.......

A post on the British Car Forum lists some of the codes and applications for Triumph cars. I can't find a full list of codes anywhere, or even just a list for the Mini.

FVP 2001/02 - Listed application is 1964-65 TR4
FVP 2003/02 - Listed application is 1966-68 TR4A
FVP 2003/10 - Moss Motors lists this for all TR4A
FVP 2003/11 - Listed application is early TR6

I am pretty sure now that the first style was used throughout 1965. Now to work out the others. Its a shame there are not many one owner cars getting around or photos of engine bays from the 60's. Makes it hard to document changes made over the years.

I got a few complete '69 engines with the middle type of valve stamped '68.
Very low mileage engines with std bores so I believe they are original.
Unsure of the part numbers stamped on valves.
I'll PM with details.

Just came across this Technical Bulletin that puts an approx. date on the changeover of PCV.

Thanks Doug for adding to the discussion with some actual facts. Looks like the first type was used until early 67.
