Yep, another one for the brain trust. I was just wanting some clarification with the identification of my Clubman.
Its does not have a build plate on the the firewall, nor can I see any numbers stamped there.
It has a compliance plate in the drivers Inner guard reading 022 D2S2M10/11204 and dated 9-74 which I have read is an earlier 1100cc lower-spec Leyland Mini.
The Rad shroud has YG2S7 5017
Wiper motor dated 6-74
Heater has an inspection date of 6 FEB 72
Car had Hydro suspension and chrome door surrounds
original colour looks to be a light olive/green

I'm a little confused about the car having a '72 date stamp on it and the hydro suspension (which when removed looked as though was original) and the '74 compliance plate. Is it a Morris Clubman or a Leyland Mini? or most likely I am a noob and there is some obvious explantion? :D

You do have a problem with your car. Lets start with what we know:
1. - YG2S7 5017 is a Morris Mini Clubman with a build date of March 1972
2. - 022D2S2M10 11204 is a Leyland Mini S with a build date of September 1974. The Leyland Mini S is the replacement vehicle for the Morris Mini Clubman.
3. April 1973 - Hydrolastic suspension phased out in favour of the cheaper rubber (dry) suspension.
4. Heater dated 6 Feb 72.

I would therfore suggest that your car is YG2S7 5017 built March 1972. The 022D2S2M10 11204 plate has been added at some stage. Have a good look at the front drivers outer and inner guard to see if replacement has taken place at some stage.

Hope this helps

Raises an interesting question...When did Morris Clubman move to Leyland? The move to Enfield? :D

No, before the move.

According to notes by Peter Davis and Chris Rogers in "Building Cars in Australia"....

When British Motor Holdings Merged with Leyland Motors Limited in the UK in May 1968 the name of the Australian company changed to

British Leyland Motor Corporation of Australia Ltd. This included the Austin-Morris Division.

In December 1971 the final name change to Leyland Motor Corporation of Australia Ltd. Usually shortened to Leyland Australia. This was recommended by public relations to give the company a more Australian name.

So from 1972 the Morris Clubman became the Leyland Mini. The Clubman reference was dropped. This included other models. The "Morris Marina" became the "Leyland Marina", "Morris Moke" became "Leyland Moke". There has even been some documentation where the P76 was being referred to as "Austin P76" prior to the name change.

A 71 GT is a technically a "Morris Mini Clubman GT"
A 72-73 GT is actually a "Leyland Mini GT" (not Clubman)

Either what John said about the guard or tag got lost and some one panicked and put a tag on I would remove the tag and use the stamped cowl numbers

Thanks for the reminder! :D
