My understanding is that every Australian Clubman GT came off the assembly line with the chequered GT gear knob, like this one. Does anyone have a different view? Attachment: Gear Knob ex Mini Driver.jpg

Lots of discussion of early cars possibly having a black knob. http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=20399&hilit=gt%2A+knob+Gear+Clubman&start=45 http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=27980&bookmark=1&hash=03f79d75 My 72 has the brown knob. The 71 was bought in parts... And came with a standard or no knob. |

2x different knobs were fitted to GT`s as far as i`m aware both had the same top--> GT checkered flag thingy but one brown, as per std clubby knob like you`ve shown (with ,of course the GT checkered flag thingy) & the other black & slightly different shape, longer & different texture |

Bubbacluby wrote: I take it you have come across something Doug ![]() No, just one of those questions that comes to mind when looking through factory literature. I was aware of the view by some that the common black knob was used on a number of early GT's, and another view that it was also available as an option or an accessory. The first issue of the Clubman parts book specifies the black knob for all models, then the next issue and all microfiche versions show only the chequered GT knob for the GT and the black one for all other models. What's a bit confusing is that the drawing for the chequered knob shows it being released into production in February 1971, so why wouldn't it have been used at the outset? The side stripes were released into production a bit later in March 1971 and I assume were available on the first GT's built. Maybe the local manufacturer of the GT knob wasn't able to supply the necessary quantity in the early days. |

I can pick it from the original from those photos. But needs something to distinguish them. But looks a whole lot better than those stickers and is 3D so well done. You mould them yourself or get it done somewhere? |

Says the knobs made from original ones modified... I reckon it will be how things look in the photo. The edge of the gt plastic bit looks more rounded but looking at my original at different angles isn't as pronounced as I thought. The blue is much brighter but mine is badly faded.... The top used to pop off and sweaty palms rubbed the ink off when a daily driver... Look good to me... Will have to check the piggy bank... |

Are the originals real wood or imitation? |

The Original is the same knob, brown plastic, as a std clubman knob with a different insert. Marina's had them too with a different insert because reverse was in a different place. Others had them too. Dave |
