Post subject:  Toga White colour mix
Ready to paint my 66 Deluxe in the original Toga White. I have found plenty of references for the colour code but I want to paint it in 2 pack and my painter cannot find the colour formula make up of the various pigments or whatever they are. Does anyone out there know where I can find this information please.

Have you talked to a ppg distributor, they seem to have many of the old bmc paint codes.

I did get mine years ago in 2K from Ovesco in Sandgate N.S.W. Hi chem do automotive 2pak they done Snow white for my 68 deluxe and Stella blue on a mates mini k unless you prefer a particular brand?

my mate got some by getting a sample pot made up in the original formula and then matched by eye

Lindsay Palmer seems to be saying a couple of things of interest:

1. The recipes from the "good old days" are of no use as the components (e.g. tinters) have changed.

2. Unless someone has recently been through this process for your colour (Toga White) you will need to provide a sample so the colour can be mixed by eye. Do you have a boot lid or number plate flap or similar to use as a sample?

Of course if the colour has been mixed recently and a recipe is available it will be for whatever version of Toga White was presented for colour matching at the time. It may not be the original factory Toga White, or it may be a very faded 45 year old component that was used for matching.

I think that's the conclusion from the discussion but very happy to be corrected. :)

I painted the roof of my Cooper S Toga White. Glasurit had the code and mixed it for me.

I have used PPG for my later restorations and they had codes for all I needed except Cherry Red. Again Glasurit were able to help.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I have dug up a sample panel out of the shed for the painter in Traralgon. Will take it there today for matching.

Gee this is a great forum, lots want to help out. I'm at the pointy end of the restoration. I suppose thats whats it all about, we all get in to help each other. Much appreciated.

The DULUX colour code for Toga White is 08452.
Reference: ICI Autocolour Dulux colour index September 1992.

The tinters and settings using the DULUX measuring system are:

Tinter Setting Tinter Name
19206 458 Hi-Opacity White
31507 484 Deep Black
05440 500 Yellow Ochre

This is a guide only. Modern colour tinters may be entirely different to these older tinters.
The colour is basically 1/3 white, 1/3 black and 1/3 yellow ochre but a small change in the tinter setting can make a large difference to the final colour. All tinters are not created equal.

Freddo - can you remember how they did it? Did you submit a sample to be matched or did they have it in their system? If the latter, it would be interesting to know how they created it, or where they obtained it. I ask this because of my earlier comment on how close the colour mixes being used today are when compared to the original colours.
